Loop of 9,5 km from Gaujan.
This loop will make you discover the Maquis of Meilhan which is the most famous and tragic event of the Second World War in the Gers Department.
This route was rehabilitated in the spring of 2025 to take advantage of a 9km ride starting from the village of Gaujan and to allow the visit of the Maquis de Meilhan and the chapel of Lasseube.
The trail description is on sale at the Tourist Office Coteaux Arrats Gimone (Gimont and Siéchapper).
Motor vehicles are prohibited. The route is suitable for hikers, equestrians, mountain bikes and electric bicycles.
Details of the PR labeled course:
1- From the parking lot, head towards the church. Go in front of the town hall. Continue to the left along the road, pass in front of a fountain. At 'Loumagne', continue to the left along the paved path that becomes earthy until a fork.
2- Turn left and join a road. Take it on the left then, at 'Terraube', turn right and continue to the right along the path of Traouès. At the water tower, turn right along the grassy path. Walk along a wood on your right. Arrived at a field, go down to the right along the wood bypassing the field. Join the bottom of the valley and a path.
*On the left: the stele of a murdered Maquis.
3- From the right, find the D291 (road of the Maquis de Meilhan), turn left. Pass in front of the maquis**. Join a bifurcation at the top of the coast.
* Detour to see: Turn left on the chemin de la Lère then the dirt road on the right to reach the remains of a farm burned during the attack on the maquis. Viewpoint on the memorial and the Pyrenees.
4- Turn right on the grassy path towards Laumo.
5- At the small road, turn right. At the farm, continue to the left and join the chapel of Lasseube where two maquisards were shot at this place.
6- Return by the same path.
