On the program of the evening: the discovery of the group Couleur S.Trio.
The music written and improvised by Pierre Boespflug mixes the energy and surprises of jazz with the colors of Olivier Messiaen’s piano works.
For this 2nd opus of Couleur. S, he surrounds himself with two exceptional musicians, both for their know-how and their creativity/expressivity, and continues with them the exploration of the musical spectrum of the great composer. In the small musical cosmogony of the pianist Pierre Boespflug, the French composer Olivier Messiaen undoubtedly holds a privileged place, like a kind of sun around which all other elements of his universe would come to gravitate and organize. After having given form in solo to a whole set of reflections and game modes elaborated from the compositions and writings of this great master of 20th century music, it is today as a trio that Boespflug pursues and develops his intuitions. Accompanied by Jérôme Fohrer on the double bass and Éric Échampard on the drums, he offers a refined music that openly refers in its harmonic colors to the magical universe of Messiaen, without ever leaving the formal frameworks of jazz, both in his dynamics and in his use of improvisation.
