Artist Veks Van Hillik draws his inspiration from the natural world around him.
A self-taught artist, over the years he has developed his own dreamlike, surreal world, drawing on a wide range of influences, including Flemish painting and painters such as Ingres, Caravaggio, Dali and Breton.
However, influenced by his generation, his work is also tinged with pop culture, video games, manga, street art and tattooing.
Each of his paintings and drawings seems to be an ode to the imaginary, a secret window onto his dreams and fantasies.
‘The Gimont mural project was an opportunity to create an atypical universe on the walls of the Halle au Gras, a central location and driving force in Gimont life. The building is now adorned with a unique work created especially for it.
Here, dreams and phantasmagoria serve the reading and the aesthetic. The emblematic duck of the Gers bestiary becomes Man and vice versa. The paper aeroplanes flying here and there are a nod to aeronautics, a sector of activity in the Gimont area.
As for the windows, they are all paths to new horizons, inviting the eye to move from one world to another.
